About Our Program:
Pikes Peak Pathways, a program of Pikes Peak BOCES, is a partner in the Pikes Peak School of Excellence which includes the Phoenix Program and New Directions Alternative Educational Facility.
Pathways is a highly structured, school based, licensed Day Treatment Center. The program provides mental health services, educational services and intense behavioral support to students K-12. Reality-based clinical treatment and natural and logical consequences guide the development of socially acceptable behavior.
Our therapeutic milieu is structured around strong, comprehensive behavior support and standards-based education programming. The ultimate goal is to meet individual student needs. Our staff works in partnership with the other professionals involved in our students’ lives in order to provide cooperative and coordinated services.
Pathways has a capacity of 54 students, 36 in the Secondary Program and 18 in the Elementary Program. Our average length-of-stay is 2 semesters; however this is determined on a student-by-student basis. The Pathways’ Program focuses on changing behavior so that our students can successfully return to public school.
We work diligently to successfully transition our students to their next educational setting. We have the option to transition selected students to the Phoenix Program or New Directions Alternative High School which share the building with Pathways.
In addition to our classroom programs, Pathways can also grant credits through on-line learning programs.
Pikes Peak Pathways’ Philosophy of Treatment
- 1. Create a safe, caring and nurturing environment for students, families, staff and visitors.
- Provide unconditional positive regard for all persons.
- Focus on student successes and strengths
- Focus on improving academic achievement and social skills development, to enable our students to successfully return to the public school setting.
- Utilize individual education, treatment and behavior plans to enhance student growth and change.
- Share our resources, expertise and experience with school districts and the community at large.
Pathways’ Students:
Our students are a racially, culturally and socio-economically diverse group. Students who attend Pikes Peak Pathways also present with a wide variety of social, emotional, behavioral and educational challenges. Most students arrive at our school with one or more identified psychiatric disorders. We consider each of our students to be highly unique and valuable; consequently we treat individuals, not diagnostic categories.
Services Provided:
- CDE standards-based academic program with an emphasis on core academics, including instruction in computer technology, transition skills, physical education and art.

- Pathways’ OPTIONS Program which includes education via online distance-learning program and outpatient therapy to address emotional needs
Accessing Pikes Peak Pathways:
Local school districts rely on Pikes Peak Pathways to serve severely emotionally and behaviorally challenged students who have been unable to function successfully in their home district programs. Services can be directly accessed and funded by school districts in the Pikes Peak region.
School districts typically refer students to the program after all in-district resources have been exhausted and the student is continuing to experience emotional, behavioral and educational difficulties.
Pathways is licensed and contracted to provide services through Medicaid and DHS Core Services Programs. Funding for therapeutic costs may be accessed through these programs for qualifying students; however, referring school districts must request and secure this funding.
